Time to think of lawncare, landscaping, and trees! As mentioned in my previous blog post about gardens and flowers, our C3 Compost holds moisture. Perfect for those newly planted perennials and trees!
For lawncare, to help grow grass strong and healthy, you want a product high in nitrogen. Nitrogen promotes lush green growth. In C3 Compost you will find we run around 23 lbs of nitrogen on a per ton basis. This means that it is perfect for grass growth as it is on the higher side. The nitrogen in compost provides a steady supply of nutrients.

To apply C3 Compost to your lawn - spread evenly across the entire lawn and water to allow compost to work its way down to the soil.
When starting a new lawn, you can prepare your soil by working the area and then spreading the compost over that. Lightly incorporate the compost into your soil, sow the grass seed, and lightly rake to cover the seeds.
Perennials and trees benefit from fertilizers that provide consistent nutrients. C3 Compost can provide just that! For annual maintenance apply 1-1/2 inch of compost around the base of the plant. This will provide slow-release nutrients. For new plantings mix in the compost to the planting hole.
An interesting fact I have learned through research is that potassium is essential for flowering, disease resistance and winter hardiness. C3 Compost is on the higher end for potassium levels so this is great for our perennials and trees that we want life from every year!
Trees need a balance of macronutrients and micronutrients. Nitrogen promotes leaf and stem growth. Phosphorus supports root development and fruit. Potassium improves disease resistance, drought tolerance, and health. C3 Compost has been tested and contains amounts of sulfur, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, manganese, and boron – which are the micronutrients that trees need.
I am so excited to get some new perennials planted this spring around our newly built house along with trees to experience all of these benefits of C3 Compost myself! Stay tuned for pictures and updates of plants this season!
