It’s that time of year where we begin to think of bountiful gardens and beautiful flowers. Here in Central, SD we are certainly praying for some rain this spring. While we do need the rain, we have also learned that C3 Compost is great for water retention. C3 Compost’s nutrient index level is at the top of the chart. This means that our product has a less chance of having toxic buildup of sodium in the soil and also tells us that this is great for soils with poor water holding ability. It’s perfect to keep the garden and flower beds moist throughout the summer.

In our compost you will not find any glass fragments, hard plastics, or metal  fragments. Our compost testing provides us this information and assures us we have a clean product.

You will find our compost has a high nutrient content, because of that we recommend incorporating the compost in with your existing soil. In the fall, after removing vegetation from your garden, lightly rake approximately 1/4 lb per square foot. In the spring, lightly incorporate about 1/4 lb per square foot. You can also add a handful of compost directly to the hole prior to planting. This is beneficial for plant roots. Another option you have is to top dress your soil near the plants as their growth progresses.

We are so excited for spring in our house and started some seedlings already! Through our testing we have learned that there is an excellent germination score and vigor. When tested it was found the seeds germinated when they were planted into a C3 Compost mix. For our seedlings we did a 50/50 C3 Compost and soil mix. We started some flowers, tomatoes, peppers, and jalapeños.

On our website you will find a few options that would be great for gardens or flowers pots. Option 1 provides a 1.4 cu ft fabric bag. This one would be great if you are just adding to flower pots. Option 2 provides a “bring your own tub option” - approximately 3 cu ft. This would also be a good option for flower pots along with adding compost to raised garden beds or other plants already established in your yard.

We are so excited to see what C3 Compost can do for your gardens and flowers this year!
